Putting sign language AI into users’ hands

SL2T converts American Sign Language to text on Pixel 11 in Gboard and Live Transcribe, free, with more devices coming.

The SL2T model was built jointly by Google DeepMind and Android teams.
Development was guided by the Deaf community through the AI Sign Language Advisory Committee (AISLAC), a group of global Deaf organizations.
Google plans to expand the technology to additional sign languages and sign language generation.
The release is accompanied by a co-authored impact report detailing the technology's capabilities and limitations.

Deaf users who sign ASL can now type on Android phones by signing, at no cost, starting with the Pixel 11.
