OpenAI expands initiatives to support journalism from classrooms to newsrooms
The collaboration provides more than 400 ChatGPT Edu subscriptions to graduate students and faculty for the 2026–2027 academic year.
- The initiative partners with the Tow-Knight Center at Newmark and the Knight Lab at Medill to integrate AI into reporting coursework.
- A renewed partnership with the American Journalism Project provides over 50 member newsrooms with ChatGPT Enterprise access and API credits.
- OpenAI will continue funding AI engineering fellows through the Lenfest Institute and supporting newsroom programs with WAN-IFRA and INMA.
Graduate journalism students and participating nonprofit newsrooms receive subsidized access to OpenAI tools and infrastructure.
